CONTRIBUTOR’S GUIDELINES

About WeCanAccess Ltd (https://www.wecanaccess.com)

WeCanAccess Ltd aims to provide an online platform where people with needs, their carers and professionals can share information, discuss common issues, offer advice and guidance, and buy and sell accessible goods.

Who is our audience?

WeCanAccess Ltd reaches a wide ranging audience of disabled people, parents of SEND children, carers, health and social care practitioners, academics and businesses. We are based in the UK but also have a significant international following.  

Who contributes to the WeCanAccess Ltd site?

Contributors include, but are not limited to, disabled people, parents of SEND children, carers, health and social care practitioners and accessible businesses. While the UK remains the principle source of contributed posts, there is still a wide geographical spread of contributions from the USA.

You may want to submit a post of your own, or simply to comment on someone else’s post, but whatever you choose to do please join in. All we ask is that in order to encourage a lively and constructive discussion, your comments should be fair and respectful of others. Under no circumstances inappropriate language or images to be posted. The definition of inappropriate can be found below. 

Editorial control

While we encourage personal views and opinions on topical issues about care, as a guiding principle we insist that content conforms to the mission and ethical standards upheld by WeCanAccess Ltd and we therefore reserve the right to refuse any contribution that contravenes these principles. Language should be fair and respectful, and we ask you to avoid targeting the professional performance of identifiable individuals, teams or specific services.

WeCanAccess Ltd makes every effort to ensure that no inappropriate content is posted, however, we know that inappropriate content can get through and rely on our users and moderators to notify us of any breaches of protocol.

Posts that contravene our rules include:

  1. Posts that are in any way discriminatory, slanderous, malicious or offensive.
  2. Complaints about specific people, businesses or services.
  3. A demand for change from a specific organisation or person
  4. Posts that contain any reference to the pros and cons of any medical treatment.  
  5. Posts that make medical claims that are not verified by peer-reviewed academic studies.
  6. Sometimes we may reject a contribution because it is not sufficiently topical or personal, but we will always discuss this with you so that you can re-submit a revised version.

Images

If you provide an image make sure that YOU have copyrights. Under no circumstances should violent, pornographic, erotic and abusive or discriminatory pictures be attached to any posts. If you have other people in the picture, make sure you have their consent to share their pictures online.

Guidance for bloggers

We are delighted that you want to write a blog for WeCanAccess!

What to write

We Can Access aims to create a shift in attitudes by showing how accessibility and inclusivity is good for the health of individuals, society and the economy. So we are looking for positive experiences of access and inclusion.

We want people to find something helpful they can take away with them, so your blog needs to have a positive message. It can be something practical, a change in approach, a change in attitude, or a drop of inspiration:

  1. It could be something you or your organisation is doing successfully or a service you provide.
  • You could describe how being inclusive has been good for your business. Have you seen your profits increase and/or your reputation improve? 
  • What tips do you have for people who want to improve access to their facility, activity or service?
  • What would you like to tell people who don’t have the same access issues as you? What should they understand?
  • Is there a particular attitude/ ethos you have experienced that has proved particularly beneficial?
  • Who or what has inspired you to approach things differently?  Is there a person who made you feel more included and what was it they did or said to make you feel this way?

These are just suggestions and we are looking forward to seeing what you come up with. If you want to talk about anything, just get in touch.  

We will NOT publish:

  • Complaints about specific people, businesses or services.
  • A demand for change from a specific organisation or person.
  • Negative experiences with no positive message.
  1. Lots of technical or medical jargon.

How to write it:

  1. Use vocabulary that is easy for everyone to understand!
  • Posts can be anywhere from 500 – 2000 words long,
  • Provide a short biography (50-100 words) about yourself (including any links you want included)
  • Provide a picture of you, or an image that represents you.

Private Companies:

Wecanaccess.com attracts a wide-ranging and international audience of special needs and disabled service users and providers. It uses embedded software that can translate articles into over 100 different languages and can read 35 out loud. If you are a private company that would like a blog on our site, please get in touch to discuss charges and terms.

All bloggers:

 We retain the right to reject any blog that does not meet our requirements. We also will edit your blog before it is published to improve its SEO and readability. If substantial changes are required, we will consult with you before publication. You have a responsibility to ensure all your information and any weblinks you provide are up to date. User Code of Conduct

By using our site you agree to the general terms and conditions above. By submitting a blog or other written content, you must follow the guide to editorial posts. You also agree to:

  1. Notify emma@wecanaccess.com if facts in your blog/ review become out of date.  
  2. If you make a comment to another person’s post please make sure that you are fair, respectful and do not post inappropriate images.
  3. You shall not have, and shall not hold yourself out as having, any authority to incur any expenditure in WeCanAccess Ltd’s name or otherwise enter into arrangements that would be binding on WeCanAccess Ltd.
  4. All blog content has to be submitted to WeCanAccess Ltd who will approve it before it is uploaded.  Please contact emma@wecanaccess.com for blog guidance and Ts&Cs.
  5. Do Not use any third-party material, including but not limited to pictures, without appropriate consents and permissions; and
  6. Should you come to believe that any of your comments or reviews might attract legal concerns you must contact us as soon as possible: emma@wecanaccess.com.
  7. You grant WeCanAccess Ltd for the period of copyright (and all extensions, revivals, reversions and renewals thereof) the exclusive and worldwide right to use material you post on this site in our future editorial materials in a digital or book/magazine form.

Payments:

  1. If you wish to advertise any commercial services or products through our website/links/blog posts, you must ask for a permission to do so. Some content is chargeable – please contact: emma@wecanaccess.com
  2. WeCanAccess Ltd reserve its right to charge a fee for advertising opportunities which may be reviewed and increased or decreased. Different services and products may have a different fees, please contact: emma@wecanaccess.com for more details.
  3. WeCanAccess Ltd shall be responsible for selling advertising on the Blog Page and is therefore, entitled to an advertisement fee. Please contact Emma Bara for more details, email: emma@wecanccess.com
  4. WeCanAccess Ltd reserves the right to grant any discounts to advertisers for network advertisements and for setting the rates for any other advertisements

Warranties and Liabilities:

1.  You hereby represent, warrant and undertake that:

2.  You shall not at any time do anything to bring WeCanAccess Ltd brands, trademarks or reputation into disrepute; and

3.  You are entitled to enter into this agreement and you are not bound by any third party restriction not to do so, including, but not limited to, the right and authority to license the intellectual property rights in and the use of material on the terms and conditions set forth in this agreement; and

4.  Your material shall be original and not copied wholly or substantially from any other source, nor contain defamatory statements nor otherwise breach the privacy, confidentiality or other statutory or common law rights of any third-party;

Terms and Termination:

1. The Agreement shall remain in full force unless terminated in accordance with its provisions.

2. Without prejudice to any of its other rights or remedies, either party shall have the right to terminate this Agreement with immediate effect at any time by giving notice in writing to the other party if:

3. the other party commits a material breach of any of its obligations under this Agreement which is not capable of remedy.

Confidentiality:

  1. As required by the law of England and Wales.
  2. Under no circumstances to discuss and/or disclose any medical or personal information of any individuals in a manner for them to be identifiable by any other person or organisation.
